Sketches and notes, ca. 1922.

Collection consists largely of preliminary studies and theoretical notes, including instructions to a printer, for a manual or teaching aid on painting, composition and Hoelzel's form and color theories, apparently using his own work as examples. Some sketches appear to be for stained-glass work and are largely of Biblical subjects. Among the theoretical sketches are short analyses of master paintings, including those of Rembrandt, Titian and Botticelli. Collection also includes 5 fragmentary sheets of notes on theoretical ideas, composition and color theory, possibly lecture notes.
